WHILE the snow has resulted in schools closing and people finding it tough to get into work – it seems it can’t stop hardy shoppers in Felixstowe.

Business owners in the town say that there was not a major downturn in trade yesterday, despite the snow causing slippery conditions on paths and roads.

Will Macgowan, manager of Blurb in Hamilton Road, said: “It hasn’t been too bad considering it is January and the snow that we have had.

“Since it has been very cold it has not been as busy but it is January.”

Homeowners woke up to a dusting of the white stuff yesterday morning but the snow quickly gave way to slush during the day as temperatures reached about 1C.

Bill Hewlett, owner of the Sandwich Shop, added: “We are really pleased to see a lot of our customers braving the weather – today (Monday) has been a really busy day.”

A spokesman for electronic shop Hughes said yesterday was quiet but there had been a number of people calling the shop to either place orders or enquire about products, instead of venturing outdoors.

The spokesman added: “It hasn’t affected us too badly and the access has been fantastic because of the gritters.

“We haven’t had any cancelled jobs in the area that I know of and our deliveries have turned up.

“It’s credit to the gritting people that have gone out there and made the roads accessible.”
