PHOTOGRAPHERS are being challenged to take a stunning picture of the Landguard peninsula to feature in a calendar next year.

It is third year the competition has been held by the Landguard Partnership, highlighting the wide range of activities, habitat and landscape on the shingle spit, Suffolk’s southern-most point.

Top prize in this year’s event is a full day one-to-one photography workshop, including lunch, with an award-winning professional photographer.

Felixstowe events co-ordinator Stephen Rampley said entrants have three categories to choose from for their photos.

These are:

■ Juxtaposition – a photograph showing the placement of two elements or things close to each other, (eg light and dark, man-made and natural).

■ Effects of weather – showing the appearance of an item or aspect of Landguard affected by the weather (eg perishing, rust, mould).

■ Landguard and people – evidence of interaction with people at Landguard, past and present, but without identifying the people.

“The third category is very intriguing and quite a challenge – it could be, for example, footprints, the soldiers’ former coats at the fort, sandcastles,” he said.

Entrants should submit photographs by emailing enquiries@landguardpartnership.org.uk and must include full name, age, telephone number, and the category entered.

Closing date is noon on Thursday, July 18.

■ Photographer James Fletcher will also be leading a series of three workshops at Landguard this year.

On May 19 he will be focussing on formal elements, on June 23 juxtaposition, and on June 30 behind the scenes.
