X-Factor winner Matt Cardle showed his support after entertaining a packed crowd at Felixstowe’s Spa Pavilion, which is due to close in June following the withdrawal of funding.

The hugely successful concert, in aid of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), proved how popular the theatre remains and the significance of an international star’s support for the Star’s Save Our Spa campaign.

Cardle, who won the ITV talent hunt in 2010, performed alongside the likes of ‘60s cover band Bits ‘n’ Pieces, teenage rock band Baseline, and the Harry Isaac Presley Operation.

Among the audience members who met the star was Mason Fountain who is battling a brain tumour and plans to launch his own charity, Mason’s Magic, under the umbrella of Brain Tumour UK, to help other young sufferers realise their dreams.

After meeting children from the hospice before the show, Cardle said: “I really enjoy performing in support of charities and this was something I thought was important to get involved with. I feel lucky and honoured to be invited.

“I support the campaign to keep the Spa open. This is the first time I’ve performed here but I can tell it has a great history and, judging by the audience, is still a popular venue.”

The 28-year-old, who is originally from Halstead, Essex, and is preparing for a 58-leg UK tour, performed his new single on the night, as well as his hit songs. He is the latest high-profile supporter of our campaign, which is quickly gathering pace.

District council decision-makers have already taken notice, agreeing to send the matter back to the council’s cabinet, which earlier said it could not afford to run the Spa.
