The Stars of Suffolk awards look to celebrate the people in our county who make our communities better places to live, be it through their work, volunteering, or showing outstanding courage, bravery or determination.

There are 13 categories including carer of the year, young person of the year, sporting achievement, individual categories for the emergency services and unsung hero of the year.

The awards, now in their tenth year, were launched by Mick Parker, of Parker Communications.

Speaking this afternoon, he said: “With only a few days to go we urge people to get as many entries in as is possible for the various categories.

“We have got incredible nominations already, but we always want more. We want to give the judges as hard of a time as possible and they will be judging in two weeks.

“It’s going to be a very emotional and unforgettable evening. The finalists are always totally amazing people who do incredible things but expect nothing in return. They are completely bowled over when we call them. They are firstly staggered to find out they have been nominated in the first place.

“They are overwhelmed to be told they are one of three finalists and when they win they just can’t believe it. It’s amazing because we are able to reward them with some marvellous prizes.

“We have had lots of nominations through so are delighted, not only with the numbers but with the quality of entries we have received.

“We have had some staggering nominations for people who just do amazing things and just don’t realise what they are doing, because they have always done it or because they love doing it.

“They don’t realise the impact they have on other peoples’ lives.”

Each finalist will be invited to attend the awards ceremony at Trinity Park on Thursday, November 9.

All winners will receive a gong and a special prize tailored to suit the interests and hobbies of the recipient.
