No suspicious circumstances to fire in Stowmarket barn containing 75 tonnes of straw

Approval given, no sale

Dozens of Suffolk firefighters were called to a blaze in Combs, near Stowmarket, on Monday night.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue was called shortly after 7.45pm to reports of a barn alight in park Road.

Four crews from Hadleigh, Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket, Ipswich East, Princes Street, Elmswell, Debenham, Needham Market and Stowmarket attended the scene.

The barn, measuring 15mx25m and containing 75 tonnes of straw, was well alight.

Two farm vehicles were used to remove straw from inside the burning building.

The flames were brought under control shortly before 9.45pm.

No-one has been reported missing or injured, and there were not believed to be any dangerous substances involved.

It is not yet clear how the fire started but there is not thought to be any suspicion of arson
