Delight as first snow of winter falls in Suffolk – with more on the way

The first snow of winter has fallen in the Suffolk towns of Saxmundham, Bungay and Southwold. Is it snowing where you are? Send your pictures to us.

This morning a light dusting of snow was captured by residents in Southwold, including staff at Saint Felix School in Reydon.

As temperatures continue to fall to -1C and -2C, several snaps picturing the first snowfall of the season have emerged.

Jeremy Reeve managed to capture a series of photographs on the seafront in Southwold, while Liam Galway took an image from his window in Oulton Broad.

Weather forecasters are predicting that snow showers seen in Suffolk will continue throughout the afternoon and into the evening.

Phil Garner, from Weatherquest, said: “We will see showers continuing as we go through the afternoon. There is likely to be frequent snow showers falling, particularly over the east of the county.

“We may see some snow settling towards the end of the day and into the evening, perhaps a centimetre or two.

“Temperatures are likely to stay below freezing overnight but into tomorrow morning it’s more likely we’ll get rain and sleet.

“There could be a touch of frost tomorrow morning so icy roads could be a problem.”

Met Office forecaster Helen Roberts said wintry showers most likely in eastern and northern parts of the UK.

She said: “As the showers push further inland by this afternoon and this evening, we could see them pushing as far inland as the Midlands, and it could turn to sleet and snow.

“There could be an accumulation but probably not a lot, like the North York Moors, where we have already got a few centimetres.

“Otherwise it will feel cold, with temperatures in the low to mid single figures.

“With the wind chill factor particularly it will feel quite a lot colder in some places.

She added: “It will definitely feel sub-zero and a temperature of 3C could feel more like minus 3C.”
