The world’s best-known locomotive will be in action between Norwich and Ipswich this weekend after last month’s trip was postponed after a fault developed.
Flying Scotsman will pull a special train from Norwich to Ipswich and back on Saturday morning – providing a breakfast-time treat for hundreds of passengers.
It will travel from Norwich down the main line before branching off to Westerfield along the new “Bacon chord” before being pulled backwards into Ipswich station so it can return to Norwich the right way round.
Arrangements have been made for photographers to see the engine at Norwich station before it leaves at about 8am. It is expected at Ipswich at about 9-9.30am and will return to Norwich by 11am.
People are expected to try to see the train en route, but British Transport Police are mounting extra patrols to ensure no one trespasses on the track.
Steam fans are still in with a chance of travelling with this famous locomotive. There are also a limited number of trip tickets to Ely from Norwich, with Flying Scotsman, departing in the afternoon (one way).
In the afternoon, passengers can join a trip to London with the engine, which will depart from Norwich at approximately 2pm. Flying Scotsman will take passengers on a fast run south through Ely and Cambridge before picking up the East Coast route to London. Passengers will have over an hour to explore, before heading back to Kings Cross Station for the journey home by vintage diesel.
Marcus Robertson, Chairman of Steam Dreams, which organised 15 day trips and three holidays by steam with Flying Scotsman said: “This will be our first visit to East Anglia with Flying Scotsman, which promises to be a fantastic experience for those on board.”
He added; “the trip was rearranged to Saturday 11 November thanks to the efforts of our train operator, West Coast Railways, along with Network Rail and Riley & Sons Engineering, and presents a special opportunity to travel with this famous locomotive.”
Tickets for these trips on board The Cathedrals Express, featuring Flying Scotsman are still available. For further details call 01483 209888 or visit www.SteamDreams.co.uk.
