Framlingham: Soprano Laura Wright talks about the body as she releases new EP in wake of marathon effort

Laura Wright's new EP, the Sound of Strength

Following her marathon exploits on Sunday, Laura Wright has released a new EP.

The 23-year-old mezzo soprano, who went to Framlingham College, stopped on Tower Bridge to give a rendention of ‘Jerusalem’ before finishing the 26.2miles for music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins.

The concept behind her new EP, ‘The Sound of Strength’, is that the body is the ultimate instrument.

Miss Wright said: “It’s incredible what your body can do. Why wouldn’t you push your body to the best it can be?

“Your body is your ultimate instrument. My instrument is me and that’s why I’m so passionate about looking after my body. I treat my voice as a muscle. If I don’t practice it would get weaker; if I don’t go for a run every day, I wouldn’t be able to run a marathon. It’s the same thing.”

The Suffolk superstar also made comparisons between athletes and classcally trained singers, including the need for dedication, and being healthy.

She said: “When I sing at Twickenham I’m feeling exactly the same as the guys standing next to me. I’m feeling nervous, proud, pumped up, and I’ve got adrenaline.”
