Fantastic weather and some changes to the format made the StowFiesta a huge success at the weekend.

A new name this year, a different date, and more family friendly elements enticed around 4,500 people to enjoy the event.

David Marsh, of organisers Stowmarket Town Council, said the event had got under way on Friday with a low-key evening featuring music and, a new departure, comedy.

Then on Saturday, the main day, there had been three stages on Chilton Fields, retaining the old StowFest event’s original music and the cream of local bands but also with a new family stage of tribute bands along with a free circus skills workshop, Punch and Judy and bouncy castle for children.

Mr Marsh said one of the biggest changes had been to hold the event three weeks later than usual.

He said: “In six of the past seven years it had rained at some point, so I thought pushing it into late June could provide better weather – it was a little bit scary in case the old date turned out to be beautiful, but everyone was thrilled with the wonderful weather this weekend.

“It was a fantastic success and a brilliant community effort to make it happen.”

Acts included Ipswich singer Jade Mayjean Peters, from BBC’s The Voice, and Ska’d 4 Life.

Mr Marsh thanked everyone involved in the event, which was supported by The East Anglian Daily Times and its sister title The Stowmarket Mercury, and sponsors Gipping Press, Bosch and Total Driving.
