Hundreds of people added a splash of colour to Ipswich’s Holywells Park on Sunday as the Hindu festival of Holi was celebrated.
It was the second large-scale celebration of the festival to be held in the town and as well as the customary throwing of coloured powder, there was music, food and dancing for people to enjoy.
Holi, which is celebrated across the world, is about saying goodbye to winter and welcoming the spring and celebrating the new life and energy of the season.
The event at Holywells Park was organised by the Ipswich and Suffolk Indian Association, in partnership with Ipswich Borough Council.
Poli Mohan, chairman of the association, said: “It has really gone really well. Everyone is covered in colour and it looks like one big free carnival for all.
“All communities have joined in and everybody’s having a great time – it’s a great success.”
After just two major events, the festival has already become a firm fixture on Ipswich’s calendar and plans are already being made for next year.
