A Suffolk place of worship has been recognised for its beauty in a new book dedicated to churches.
St Mary’s Church lies in the small village of Badley, near Stowmarket, and is one of only 36 which has been included in the book countrywide.
Maurice Sore, 75, has been a volunteer at the church for 14 years, and said: “I think really it’s beautiful because of its simplicity. Everyone seems to like it because it’s untouched and has not been messed about with. A lot of it is the peace and quiet down here – it’s a mile off the road and off a long track – so people like to come and see it.”
The church is now only used for a handful of special services after it became redundant in 1986 because its congregation diminished.
The book, Beautiful Churches is available now.
