THOUSANDS of people headed to a game and country show at the weekend – with knights jousting on horseback one of the many displays.

Organisers of the Robin Hood Game and Country Show, which was held at Trinity Park, Ipswich, said 40,000 people attended the two-day event.

The All About Dogs arena saw all manner of pooches dashing through agility courses and making a splash in the Dock Dogs pool.

Crowds experienced birds of prey displays, a stunt BMX show and a demonstration by the East Anglian Fire and Rescue Team.

Event promoter James Martin, 38, said: “It’s gone really well, I think it’s one of the best shows we have had. There was something for everyone – the dog show has been really strong and we had the Olympic gold-medal winner Peter Wilson, who did autograph signing.”

Mr Wilson won his gold medal for shooting in the men’s double trap competition.

Mr Martin said he had his fingers crossed all week for good weather and said it was only the “spirit of Suffolk” that pushed the organisers to put the show on after poor weather had cancelled the Suffolk Show earlier in the year.

The countryside arena included shows featuring gun dogs, terriers and lurchers as well as ferret racing.

Terry Roberts put on horsemanship demonstrations in the equestrian side of the show.

There was also an area of shopping and trade stands featuring a food and drink festival.

Mr Martin said the event would be going ahead next year and he called for local companies to contact him about putting on stalls at future events.
