Gallery: The search is on for dog to play Toto in Ormiston Sudbury Academy’s production of the Wiz

19:01 09 January 2014

Ormiston Sudbury Academy

Ormiston Sudbury Academy's production this year on February 5, 6 and 7, 2014 is the Wiz. This is based on the Wizard of Oz and the school is looking for a real live dog to take the part of Toto. However, the timing is short and they really need to get in applications, shortlist and auditions. Playing Dorothy is Laura Barnard.

Archant

Dramatic dogs are wanted to sink their teeth into a meaty role in a school production.

Ormiston Sudbury Academy is on the lookout for a charismatic canine to portray Toto in its adaptation of The Wiz musical.

The pet will accompany Dorothy on her adventures through the modern portrayal of family favourite The Wizard of Oz, which is packed full of Motown and soul music.

The school’s head of drama and director of the production, Leo Cox, said: “Using a real animal in the production is something we’ve never done before and it fills me with fear!

“However, Toto is so important to the story he simply must be played by a real dog – there is no way around it.”

Successful applicants will be invited to auditions at the academy on Thursday, January 16, where the dogs will get the chance to meet the show’s leading lady and strut their stuff to prove their worthy of the part.

This year’s performances run on February 5, 6 and 7.

Any interested owners should send a photograph of their pet and an impassioned plea answering ‘Why my dog would make a great Toto in 25 words’ addressed to the Toto’s Got Talent Competition, Mr L Cox, Ormiston Sudbury Academy, Tudor Road, Sudbury, CO10 1NW, or email lcox@ormistonsudbury.co.uk
