The train is one that is already in normal service – but has been rebuilt by rail engineers Wabtec and will be running on the Greater Anglia network for a year.

During this period, Greater Anglia and Eversholt Rail will be seeking passenger views on the many new features showcased.

The four-carriage train will operate on routes between London and Braintree, Colchester, Clacton, Harwich and Ipswich.

To fully understand passengers’ preferences and test out different options, the unit features two suburban style and two metro style carriages.

The train is officially being launched today at Liverpool Street and Colchester – and is upgrade for suburban and commuter services. It is not designed as a replacement for InterCity services.

  • Anyone else with strong feelings on the comfort of the trains should write to their MP, because there is an upcoming consultation on the train upgrades.

  • The Class 90 (manual door) trains are the only comfortable ones on this line for me. The Class 321 and and other newer trains are very uncomfortable, with lots of vibration. I hope the new trains on this route are well built, refurbishing these particular trains may not be much good!

  • Also, the newer (electric door) trains have poor seating arrangement and poor seating in general, in my view!
