Griff Rhys Jones has heaped praise on the ‘remarkable, inspired and very difficult work’ of staff at East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
The comedian visited the charity’s Treehouse Hospice in Ipswich recently where he was given a guided tour of the facilities and the had chance to chat to the team of dedicated nurses and fundraisers.
The visit comes ahead of his performance at Ufford Park Hotel on Sunday, October 29, raising money for the charity.
Mr Rhys Jones, who lives in Suffolk, said he was amazed by the compassion he found at the hospice.
“The Treehouse is a hospice but it’s really about living and helping people to get the most out of life,” he said.
“It does remarkable, inspired and very difficult work to help families through circumstances that might affect any of us, at any time.
“I was so impressed by the people I met, so amazed by the detail and compassion I found there.
“It’s a good place, it provides a vital service, but it can only do this with our continued and continuous support.
“I’m so pleased to be able to do so in a small way.”
Griff’s show, ‘Where was I’, will see the Not the Nine O’Clock News star speak about his recent travels to Africa, the Baltics, Australia, India and parts of Wales and what he has learned from his globe-trotting journeys.
Natasha Brame, EACH Suffolk Community Fundraiser, said the money raised from the charity gig would be put to good use at the hospice.
She said: “We all really enjoyed having Griff at The Treehouse and we’re so excited to be benefiting from what I’ve no doubt will be a hilarious night at Ufford Park Hotel.
“All money raised from this special event will help us to continue provide care for the 120 children and young people with life-threatening conditions we support across Suffolk and East Essex, and their families.”
Doors at Ufford Park Hotel, in Yarmouth Road, Woodbridge, open at 6.30pm.
Tickets range in price from £15 to £20 and will be available until noon on Thursday October 26, or until sold out.
