A police constable from Hadleigh will swap his uniform for running gear next month to raise money for two local charities.

Pc Matt Paisley from Babergh East Safer Neighbourhood Team is set to run the London Marathon on April 13 for The Porch Project youth club, based at St Mary’s Church, and the Neo-Natal Unit at Ipswich Hospital.

Every year, the unit named the Framlingham Ward, caters for around 550 high dependency and intensive care babies born before 36 weeks gestation, weighing under 2kg or who are sick.

Pc Paisley said: “The Ipswich Hospital Neo-Natal Unit is very close to my heart, as on October 27 last year, my first child Isla Paisley was born at only 29 weeks weighing 2lbs and 13ounces.

Not only did Isla have to contend with being so tiny and under developed, she battled her way through blood poisoning and infection, finally being allowed home on Boxing Day 2013.

“If it wasn’t for the skill and determination of the staff at Ipswich Hospital, Isla and many other babies may not have survived. They go above and beyond their call of duty.”

Donations to Pc Paisley’s causes can be made via the BT MyDonate website, either by searching for Matt Paisley or the Porch Project.
