Hadleigh: Suspected illegal immigrants caught by police after they were seen getting out of a lorry in Ipswich Road

PUBLISHED: 21:43 03 March 2014 | UPDATED: 21:43 03 March 2014

Ten suspected illegal immigrants seen exiting a lorry in Hadleigh today have been arrested on suspicion of immigration offences.

Seven men from Eritrea and two men from Sudan tonight remain at police stations and are due to be transferred to “immigration detention”, the Home Office said.

The other suspected illegal immigrant spotted getting out of a lorry in Ipswich Road at just before 10.55am today was found to be a minor and is due to be passed in to the care of social services.

Officers “quickly” detained the all-male group on the A1071 with the help of the police helicopter, a Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said.

A spokesman for the Home Office said: “When suspected illegal immigrants found on lorries are arrested by police, we respond quickly.

“We work closely with police to tackle illegal immigration. Where someone is found to have no legal right to remain in the UK we will take action to remove them.”

In September last year eight immigrants were detained at the town’s Lady Lane Industrial Estate.
