A Suffolk marathon runner is undertaking his greatest ever fundraising challenge to support those suffering from the medical condition that turned his family “upside down”.

Tim Rix, 27, lost his mother, Judy, after she suffered a stroke while on holiday in Australia in January 2012.

His brother Josh Rix, 23, collapsed and died soon after arriving in Australia while planning their mother’s funeral.

The father-of-one has been motivated by the tragic events to run the London Marathon on Sunday in aid of the Stroke Association.

“A stroke can strike at any time, which can turn families upside down and leave you with no time to even say goodbye properly,” he said.

“In my case my mum suffered a stroke and I did not even get a chance to say goodbye.

“This one reason alone has motivated me in my training and fundraising and trying to raise as much money as possible for the Stroke Association.

“To be able to give something to a cause which has affected my family greatly, has made me want to raise as much money as possible to help them in the great work that they do.”

Mr Rix, an IT worker from Hadleigh, will be taking to the streets of London with around 40,000 other runners, in his first ever competitive event.

A keen sportsman, Mr Rix plays football for Bildeston Rangers FC, is vice-captain of Hadleigh CC, and says his training is going well, despite suffering a slight knee injury four weeks ago.
