A woman has been taken to hospital after being hit by a train near Stowmarket.

The incident happened just before 6.15pm at Haughley Junction.

It is not known how the woman came to be on the line or what injuries she has suffered.

A spokesman for Suffolk police said she had been taken to hospital by ambulance.

A second person – a man who was at the scene when police arrived – was uninjured, the spokesman added.

All lines have now reopened and trains are running again, though disruption is still expected until about midnight.

British Transport Police are investigating the incident.
