A woman is in hospital with a serious head injury after a freak accident in Haverhill last night.

The casualty, in her 20s, had fallen about twelve feet into a concrete culvert with water in it at around 10.40pm.

A volunteer doctor and paramedic from the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service were called, along with a fire crew and ambulance service.

She was rescued by firefighters and a team from the East of England Ambulance service.

The woman was then treated by the SARS team and was later taken by ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital with a serious head injury.
