A quaint and ancient Suffolk cottage is today in the festive mood after a reindeer appeared on its roof.
The reindeer – the animal that traditionally pulls Santa’s sleigh – appeared on The Forge in Hemingstone right next to the chimney.
Merv Palmer has lived in the 500-year-old cottage for more than 25 years with his wife Di.
Mr Palmer, 75, said: “We are having the roof re-thatched and it just appeared. It is a bit of Christmas fun.
“We are very happy with it.”
The couple are looking forward to a family christmas with their grandchildren.
Needham Market-based thatcher Simon Clarke said the reindeer’s head took about five hours to complete.
He added: “I have been a thatcher for 30 years and this is the first time I have done a reindeer. I am really pleased with it.
“It is great to see the smiles on people’s faces as they drive past.”
