Holbrook: Recycling officials fail to keep up with post-festive rush

RECYCLING centre officials had hoped to be ready for the post-Christmas rush – but in one Suffolk village that didn’t seem to be the case.
This was the scene at the bottle banks in Holbrook, based at the village primary school, with a severe overflow leading to an eyesore.
Reader Garth Mclean said: “The containers have been filled for several days with a large amount of ‘overflow’ and no sign of anything being done about it.
“The bottle bank in the village is situated at the primary school and it would be very unfortunate if the situation was not cleared before the pupils returned to school.”
In the past some recycling centres have struggled to cope with the aftermath of the festive season and special efforts were apparently being made this year to keep up with the rush.

Agree with MZH - it's due to thoughtless people leaving the bottles there when the banks are full. It could also be that people in Holbrook drink far more than in any other village in Suffolk.

Ridiculous, people can see the full bottle banks but continue to dump their bottles near it and next to the primary school too, no doubt those people don't consider themselves littering and will be the first to say its the councils fault! Is it really that difficult - if the bin is full take your bottles to a bank elsewhere or keep them at home until the bin is emptied? It takes a little while to get back to normal after xmas, it would be so much easier if people just gave things a little thought!!

Shame on the people of Holbrook. This is called littering & not recycling. They have basically dumped their rubbish in the street. A bit of commonsense would say take the bottles home & come back next week with them. But haye hoo people are very busy nowadays aren't they to think of others!!!
