A woman had to be rescued by firefighters after fire ravaged a first-floor bedroom.

The blaze happened at a semi-detached property in Kings Avenue, Holland on Sea at around 10.30pm last night.

Firefighters from Clacton arriving at the scene found the bedroom was well alight while the rest of the first floor was filled with smoke.

A woman at the house was led to safety and given initial first aid by firefighters, before being left in the care of paramedics.

Crews had put the fire out by 11.15pm and then used a high-pressure fan to clear smoke from the building.

A joint police and fire investigation is underway to establish the cause.
