PLANS to build a number of homes in a picturesque Suffolk village look set to be rejected after nearly 100 letters of objection were received.
Suffolk Coastal District Council will meet next week to discuss the proposals for The Street, Walberswick.
The plans - for eight properties including two affordable homes on land to the side and rear of Rosemary Cottage and the former Waveney Lodge - have been recommended for refusal.
The site is within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is close to the Walberswick Conservation Area and a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The district council received 87 letters objecting to the proposals, while the parish council also believes the scheme would be detrimental to the village and contrary to the local plan in relation to visual impact and over development.
Other concerns from members of the public include an increase in urbanisation, a rise in traffic, a fear that they will become holiday homes and that the project would set a precedent for future applications.
The scheme has been put forward by Goanna Makay Ltd and would consist of two four bedroom and two two bedroom houses and two two bedroom and two one bedroom bungalows.
But planning bosses at Suffolk Coastal District Council have recommended the scheme be refused.
A report to the North Area Development Control Sub Committee, which meets next Wednesday, concludes: “Having thoroughly examined the proposal in the context of the planning policy issues and site characteristics, there are no objections in principle to the residential development of this site.
“However, the proposed development represents an overdevelopment of the site which is inconsistent with the character of the surrounding area.”
They also believe the scheme would have a detrimental impact and overbearing presence on neighbouring properties.
Last night a representative for DLA Town Planning Ltd, which is handling the application on behalf of Goanna Makay Ltd, was unavailable for comment.
