Two Ipswich fire crews were called to a kitchen fire

The fire started in a car, parked near to the Freemason Lodge Stables, in Bury Road.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue service received an emergency call just before 1am this morning and sent two crews from Newmarket to the scene of the fire.

When firefighters arrived they found the flames had spread from the car to the wooden framework of a nearby stable, owned by flat racing champion Sir Michael Stoute.

Three people were on the first floor of the stable and three horses were on the ground floor.

Once the flames were out, firefighters led the occupants of the first floor and the horses to safety.

No one was injured in the blaze and the horses were checked over by stable staff.

At around the same time, firefighters in Felixstowe were called to Langley Avenue, where wooden scaffolding had caught light. A crew used one hose to bring the flames under control by 1.27am.

Then, at 4.45am, a Bury St Edmunds crew were called to Stanchil’s Farm, in Hengrave, where a campfire was out of control. Firefighters used a water back-pack to douse the flames, which were out by 5.20am.
