No weapons found after armed police incident in Ipswich

The armed police incident sparked by reports that an air rifle had been fired in a public place in Ipswich yesterday has resulted in no weapons being found, no injuries and no arrests.

Suffolk police was called to reports of concerns for public safety and blocked off a section of Burrell Road, between the junction with Princes Street and Stoke Street.

At the time, a police spokesman said there were concerns that an air rifle had been discharged.

This morning, Suffolk police confirmed that no trace of any weapon had been discovered.

“A call was made in good faith by a member of the public who was concerned that an air powered weapon was being discharged in a public place,” a spokesman added.

“Police put in place road closures to protect the public whilst officers dealt at the scene. As a result of investigations Police can confirm that no weapon was found, no-one was injured, and no arrests have been made.

“Police ask that if anyone has any further information then please contact us.”

All roads had been reopened last night.

Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to call police 101 quoting incident number 307 of September 15.
