Pupils at Britannia Primary School in Ipswich have been paid a visit by some of the town’s binmen.

One of Ipswich Borough Council’s refuse lorries came in to the school emblazoned with a poster that was designed by Year Three pupil Abigail Roper.

In November last year members of the borough council’s waste performance team came to the school to deliver an assembly about waste management and launch a competition for the children to design a poster along the theme of “responsible disposal of rubbish”.

Abigail won the competition, however Year 3 pupil Dougie and Year 6 pupil Owen were also highly commended and won a new bin each for the school playground.

Abigail was offered the chance to show her class the poster she had designed on the side of the lorry, which reads “Don’t be a litter bug”.

Year Six science teacher Mark Arbon said: “If children get the message right then hopefully some adults will learn too. My kids from my class room looked out the window and were very impressed.”
