Ipswich: Call for more brave women to join charity photoshoot

MORE women are needed to join a daring photoshoot fundraiser for a breast cancer charity this weekend.
Ipswich photographer Matt Staples is looking for more people to get involved with 130 Brave Women – a photoshoot in aid of Cancer Research UK.
The idea for the image came from a photo Mr Staples took in 2005 of three partially nude women covering their breasts with their hands.
The 34-year-old went on Facebook and asked if any women would be interested in taking part in a similar photo in aid of the cancer charity.
“I was showing the picture off and asking if people wanted to reproduce it,” he said. “So many people wanted to get involved, I thought we should do something a bit bigger.”
The number 130 was chosen because, according to Cancer Research UK, that is the number of women diagnosed with cancer every day.
The brave volunteers will all be wearing jeans and bright pink underwear and linking arms with their hands over their breasts.
The image will be shot a few women at a time and then stitched together to create a chain of 130 women all linking arms.
Mr Staples describes the project as “130 women, representing the potential daily diagnosed cases, in a chain helping to create an interesting (and cheeky but tasteful) photograph to raise awareness and funds.”
Mr Staples, who has been a professional photographer since 2005, is aiming to raise £3,000 from the project and will also donate the final image to Cancer Research UK for use in fundraising and promotion.
Small versions of the image, whole and in sections, will also be sold to the models, families and friends with all profits going to the charity.
So far, around 70 women are signed up to attend – but Mr Staples is determined to reach the total target number.
“If we don’t hit 130 women this week, we’re going to do it again every two weeks until we reach the target,” he said.
The first photoshoot will be held at Matt Staples Photography in Queen Street on Sunday from 10am to 2pm.
