A COMMUNITY has been left in shock by the death of a man in Stoke Park Drive, a councillor from the area said today.

It is understood the man, thought to be in his 50s, took his own life in the incident on Friday night.

He was found dead at the scene, close to the Asda car park, after the red Toyota Corrolla he was driving struck another vehicle at around 9pm.

One source told The Star the scene faced by emergency services called to deal with the accident was “horrific”.

Police worked long into the night ensuring there was no sign of the tragedy by early Saturday morning.

Glen Chisholm, borough councillor for Stoke Park, said: “It has been a shock for everyone in the community.

“There is a great sadness about it all.

“My heart goes out to all the emergency services who attended the tragic incident and the families involved.”

Despite the harrowing scene they were faced with, none of the fire service have requested any counselling.

Suffolk police said the man would not be named until an inquest has been opened. Formal identification is yet to be carried out.

Paramedics said they treated a woman – believed to be the driver of the other vehicle involved – for minor injuries.

A police spokeswoman said investigators would still like to hear from any witnesses.

Those with information should call the police’s non-emergency number 101.
