TIS the season to be jolly for drivers with the addition of a new town centre car park.

Ipswich Borough Council’s new Regent car park, situated at the bottom of Woodbridge Road, has now been unveiled.

Star of the Regent’s pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sarah-Jane Honeywell, officially opened the car park yesterday – just in time for Mumford & Sons’ eagerly-awaited show tonight.

The facility, which is where the Caribbean Club once stood, has around 60 spaces and costs just £1 for an hour for up to three hours while there is free entry after 8pm.

Carole Jones, the borough council’s economic development portfolio-holder, said: “We were determined to get the car park open before Christmas so shoppers and theatre-goers alike can take advantage of it.

“We have decided to peg charges at the same level as Crown in order to help businesses as much as we can.”
