A woman fled from her flat by climbing out of a window after a vicious attack by her former boyfriend, a court has heard.

Serena Myckleburgh was repeatedly punched in the face and head with a clenched fist by 25-year-old James Warner after he asked her if she was seeing someone else, Ipswich Crown Court was told.

During the attack Miss Myckleburgh pleaded with Warner to stop and at one stage she managed to break free and ran to the front door only to find it was locked, said Michael Crimp, prosecuting.

She then tried to get out of a front window but Warner had pulled her back.

Miss Myckleburgh screamed for help and on her second attempt she managed to escape out of the window and run to a neighbour’s flat to get help, said Mr Crimp.

As a result of the attack Miss Myckleburgh suffered cuts to her nose and eyebrow.

“There was blood all over her house and she had been absolutely petrified about what he would do next,” said Mr Crimp.

He said the couple had a four-month relationship which ended in September.

After the separation Warner had turned up at Miss Myckleburgh’s flat uninvited from time to time and had told her “he was hers and she was his”, said Mr Crimp.

Warner, of Birkfield Drive, Ipswich, admitted assaulting Miss Myckleburgh causing her actual bodily harm on December 18 and was given a 35-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, with 18 months’ supervision.

He was also ordered to attend an integrated domestic abuse programme and to pay £150 compensation to Miss Myckleburgh. He was also made the subject of a three-year restraining order banning him from contacting her.

Craig Marchant, for Warner, said his client had been drinking and had “lost it”.
