A woman accused an Ipswich man of raping her after discovering he had posted video footage of him having sex with her while she was asleep on social networking website Facebook, a court has heard.

The recording, which was made by 22-year-old Stephen Brawn, was seen by a relative of the alleged victim who brought it to her attention, Ipswich Crown Court was told yesterday.

Charles Myatt, prosecuting, alleged that the woman had no idea that Brawn had sex with her while she was asleep or that he had recorded it until she saw the footage on his Facebook page.

“She says she wouldn’t have consented to sex between them being videoed while she was asleep,” said Mr Myatt.

He said that when Brawn was arrested on suspicion of raping the woman he had laughed.

Mr Myatt said Brawn accepted posting the footage on his Facebook page but denied raping the woman and claimed she had asked him to film him having sex with her while she was asleep.

Brawn, who had been staying at a friend’s house in Ipswich, has denied raping the woman.

Giving evidence Brawn, who has no previous convictions and is of no fixed abode, said he and the woman had exchanged intimate photographs on their mobile phones and claimed he had also filmed her performing a sex act on him.

He told the court the woman had asked him to record him having sex with her while she was asleep so that she could watch it the next morning.

He said that the morning after he made the recording she had asked to see it and that after watching it she had initiated sex with him.

Asked by his barrister Steven Dyble why he had posted the footage on his Facebook page he said: “I don’t know.”

He said he had laughed when he was arrested because he could not believe the woman had accused him of raping her.
