An Ipswich man who tried to rob a woman of her handbag has been warned he could be jailed when he is sentenced next month.

Tomas Sztorc, 32, of Fore Street, pleaded guilty at a plea hearing at Ipswich Crown Court today (Wed) via a prison video link to attempted robbery and assault by beating on September 19.

The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report until the week commencing November 6 and Sztorc was remanded in custody.

Adjourning sentence Judge David Goodin told Sztorc: “Robbery even unsophisticated attempts in the street of this nature are always treated seriously by the courts.

“A custodial sentence seems to me to be inevitable, but it may be that it can be a sentence of two years or less that could be suspended. No decision has been made yet.”

Melanie Benn, for Sztorc, said no weapon had been produced or threatened during the attempted robbery.

She said her client had been in the UK for ten years and had been heavily drinking at the the time of the offences.
