CASH was stolen from a pensioner’s bag while she was shopping in Ipswich.

Police are investigating after an amount of money was taken from the 81-year-old’s bag yesterday while in Tower Ramparts shopping centre between 11.45am and 12.30pm.

Cash in a white envelope, a purse and cheque book were stolen from a zipped compartment in the woman’s shopping bag.

Officers are urging shoppers to be vigilant during the Christmas season and offering top-tips to keep their belongings safe.

Advice includes not carrying around large sums of money or valuables, keep your bag on you and the top secured with a zip, do not keep your PIN with your bank cards and consider using a purse chain to keep it secure.
