A photographer who set himself the challenge to photograph 1,000 people in Ipswich finally reached his target – and today you can see the results in the Ipswich Star.

Gavin King is exhibiting his 1,000 Faces work in the Town Hall this week after six months of work.

And today the Star will be publishing a special supplement showing off his work – and to give participants the chance to see their contribution to the project.

Gavin, 33, said: “It’s been a lot of work and fun, but I’m relieved to have completed it in time for the exhibition.

“I’m really grateful to everybody who has come forward to have their photo taken or shown their support.

“Kerseys solicitors have shown a lot of support and helped to publicise the event, for which I’m very grateful.”

Gavin, whose studio is based in Basepoint Business Centre, celebrated taking his 1,000th photo earlier this month.

Paralympic Bronze winner Zoe Newson and Gary Avis, ballet master of the Royal Ballet London, are among the hundreds photographed by Gavin to date.

And his youngest participant is just two weeks old whereas Ken Rivers is the oldest, aged 86.

Gavin, who went to Gusford Primary School and Chantry High School, said he wanted the project to show the diversity of Ipswich.

Kerseys Solicitors in Lloyds Avenue have supported the event and members of staff have also had their photo taken.

Kimat Singh, who is a partner at Kerseys and grew up in Ipswich, said: “This is such a great achievement and I’m really proud of Gavin. He has worked very hard on this and it’s paid off.”

Gavin gave people a white board so they could write down whatever they were feeling as a way to express themselves.

He said the photos show diversity, not just with culture and religion, but also how people dress, behave and feel.

The 1,000 Faces project opened to the public tomorrow. A private viewing will take place on Friday.
