A ‘wonderful’ school reunion has been held to celebrate 40 years since their school days.

About 65 former students from Priory Heath Secondary Modern on Nacton Road - which later became Holywells - attended the reunion, including an ex pupil who flew over from Malta.

Jay Mohtram, one of the organisers, said: “Many of the pupils had not seen each other for 40 years including myself and so there was a great deal of catching up to do. A disco was held and many people danced the night away to the sounds of 70’s music.

“The biggest cheer of the night was given to an ex retired police officer, PC Eddie Burgess, who was the local community beat officer for the Priory Heath Estate back in the 60’s and 70’s. He must be in his 80’s now.

“He turned up and was introduced by the DJ and given a rapturous applause by us all. We all remember him as the good old fashioned beat officer, who commanded respect from us all the time.”

The students, who left the school in 1974, now plan a smaller get together at Christmas time.
