Two thousand people are needed to raise money for Ipswich’s two hospices by taking part in the Larking Gowen half-marathon.

The race starts and finishes in Christchurch Park on Sunday, September 21 at 10am.

With a new start time of 10am and a new race director, organisers Ipswich Borough Council and Ipswich JAFFA running club are hoping for an even bigger turn-out this year.

Last year, 1,500 people signed up, and Adam Keer, sports development officer at Ipswich Borough Council, said: “This year, we want 2,000 at least. And for those who want to bring the kiddies along we have our family fun run.

“It’s a fabulous scenic route but we are delighted that our sponsors, chartered accountants Larking Gowen, are again sponsoring the event.”

Adam urged people to sign up now. He said: “It’s really part of the Ipswich events calendar and a start and finish line in Christchurch Park makes it easier for friends and families to cheer the runners on.”

Susie Hood, manager at Larking Gowen, commented: “We are very proud to be part of this event and are also delighted that through the event we are able to support St Elizabeth Hospice and EACH this year along with the many other charities participants support.”

Last year, Olympics legend Colin Jackson started the action but organisers are so far tight-lipped about which celebrity they have lined up
for this year.
