AN unlicensed drink-driver who crashed his car into a wall before fleeing the scene is banned from the road today.

Marc Miller, of Weyland Road, Witnesham, was disqualified from driving for 30 months by Ipswich magistrates.

The 22-year-old had pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence, and having no third party insurance.

Miller was driving a black Alfa Romeo when it crashed at around 2am on December 23 at Westerfield Court, Westerfield Road, Ipswich.

The accident occurred as the Miller was heading out of town.

The car was abandoned half-on, half-off, the road. One of the vehicle’s wings was damaged and a wheel had virtually snapped from the axle, according to police reports at the time. Both airbags had also been activated and there was a crack in windscreen.

Although no one was present when officers arrived, the Alfa Romeo’s hazard lights were on.

The car was thought to have taken a left-hand bend too quickly forcing it from one side of the road to the other, and on to the pavement where it hit a wall before ricocheting back across the road.

When officers went to the address of the registered keeper they found two men. One had the keys to the car on him, but both were arrested as no explanation was given as to what had happened.

Miller was eventually found to have been the man driving and was breath tested.

The test showed he had 61 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 mcgs.

In addition to his ban, Miller was also fined a total of £200, and ordered to pay £20 to the victims’ fund, as well as £30 prosecution costs.
