An Ipswich woman has admitted assaulting the licensee of a Felixstowe nightspot and one of its customers.

Victoria Clarke, of Bond Street - who turns 23 today - pleaded guilty at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court to two charges of assault by beating on December 13.

Prosecutor Colette Harper said the incident occurred at The Grand at 1.20am.

Clarke left the club and walked away with friends.

However, a short time later she returned and approached the bar.

The court was told Clarke launched herself at the bar as if trying to get to the till area.

The licensee Lorraine Woodgate and a colleague got hold of Clarke but she was said to be flailing around and caught Ms Woodgate.

Mrs Harper said a customer, Gary Willoughby, was drinking in the nightspot’s public area when he was hit on the head by a glass causing a cut.

Paul Donegan, representing Clarke, said his client did throw a plastic glass but it was on to the bar. However, it bounced and hit Mr Willoughby.

The court heard Clarke suffers from depression and related issues. Five days before the incident her mother had moved to New Zealand.

Mr Donegan said Clarke felt low and had too much to drink on the night of the assaults.

District Judge Sandeep Kainth told Clarke: “You behaved in an appalling fashion. It was completely unacceptable. Thank God it (the glass) was plastic and not glass.”

Clarke was sentenced to a community order and excluded from licensed premises for 28 days.

She must pay £75 compensation to Ms Woodgate and £150 to Mr Willoughby. Clarke was also ordered to pay £60 to the victims’ fund.
