Ipswich: Women are leading the way at UCS

WOMEN are dominating the student population at UCS, figures have revealed.

According to recent statistics released by the university, women account for 70% of the undergraduate students at UCS and 73% of postgraduate students are also female.

Mary Munley, a lecturer in the School for Business, Leadership and Enterprise at UCS, said: “At a time when undergraduate applications nationally have dipped, UCS has seen women enthusiastically signing up for courses. It is obvious that women recognise the value of higher education and training to enable them to do well in their future careers.”

UCS is inviting people to celebrate the achievements of successful and inspirational women and embrace gender balance in the workplace by hosting an event on Friday, March 8, to mark the 102nd International Women’s Day.

Liberal Democrat politician Baroness Ros Scott, chief executive of Suffolk County Council Deborah Cadman and Nikki King OBE, managing director of Isuzu Trucks, will all be speaking the event at Trinity Park, which has the theme of Creating Gender Balance in the Real World.

Dr Sharon Saunders leads the Women in Leadership and Enterprise Research Group at UCS.

She said: “Inspiring both the current and next generations of women leaders to succeed in the real world is a heartfelt motivation for us.

“Women have come a long way and events like this will energise us all to go much further.”
