A 17-YEAR-old has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent after another youth was stabbed during an incident at an Ipswich park.

The teenager, who can not be identified due to his age, appeared before South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court in Ipswich on Saturday morning for the first hearing of his case.

He was remanded in custody until his next hearing, which is due to take place at the same court on Thursday.

Suffolk Police has said the 18-year-old who sustained stab wounds has now been released from hospital following treatment.

The incident occurred at the Alderman Road recreation ground, near to the Portman Road football stadium, just before 6pm on Thursday.

A critical care paramedic and doctor from emergency medical charity Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) were sent to the scene to treat the injured teenager.

The 18-year-old was then taken to Ipswich Hospital by paramedics for further treatment.

A 17-year-old male suspect was arrested by officers on suspicion of unlawfully and maliciously wounding the injured teenager.

He was taken into custody for questioning at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre and held overnight.

Police continued to quiz the suspect on Friday, before he was subsequently charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.
