A Canadian woman who is retracing her roots is hoping to meet with members of her extended family when she visits Ipswich next month.

Loralyn Lorch, of White Rock, in British Columbia, said: “I plan to visit Ipswich, where my father was born, from April 12 to 16.

“I would love to find out if there are any relatives of mine still living in the area. “

Mrs Lorch is the daughter of Edward Giles Turner, who was born in 1902 and died in 1991.

She said: “His parents were Joseph (1841-1904) and Beatrice Mary Turner (nee Giles) (1871-1905). Beatrice was also married previously to Oliver King.”

Edward had a brother, Albert Turner (1903-1965) and two step-brothers Harold Oliver King (1894-1972) and Austin Henry King (1896-1984).

She continued: “The parents both died when dad was two years old and he and Albert were placed in the George Mueller Orphanage in Bristol. The other two brothers were sent to the Barnardo’s homes.”

Beatrice was the daughter of Elizabeth and Henry Mason Giles. And she has discovered that her grandfather’s dad was called Clark Turner.

If you think you may be able to help Loralyn piece together more of her family history before she arrives in Ipswich, please email her.
