The “Cathedrals Express” will go from Ipswich to Canterbury on June 28.

The train is scheduled to be hauled by Stanier Black Five 44932, starting from Ipswich at 8.25am and will first make its way to the capital, taking in spectacular views of The Olympic Park and City of London, before heading out across The Garden of England, arriving in Canterbury at 2pm.

Tickets are still available for the trip – ranging from £99 for a Standard Class seat to £239 for a seat with full Pullman-style dining.

The trip is organised by Steam Dreams, whose chairman Marcus Robertson said: “As steam journeys go, this has it all; spectacular views of London, wonderful scenery as we pass through Kent and several glimpses of the sea on our return.

“We are thrilled that this year we’re able to use steam for the entire journey, giving passengers the full Cathedrals Express experience.”

The Cathedrals Express will also be picking up passengers from Colchester, Shenfield, Kensington Olympia and Bromley South before heading to Canterbury.

Anyone interested in travelling on The Cathedrals Express should call the booking office on 01483 209888 or visit www.cathedralsexpress.co.uk.

  • And the photo IS actually a Black 5. This must be nearly a first for a newspaper to use an accurate steam loco picture.
