The family of an Ipswich father-of-two who died following a road accident last week have paid tribute to him.

Colin Crowther, 69, was described as a “kind, thoughtful and considerate” man in a statement released by his family today.

He was cycling on the southbound carriageway of Old London Road at Copdock on Thursday afternoon when he was involved in a collision with a blue Citroen CV.

Mr Crowther, of Ipswich, was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Ipswich Hospital. He died later that evening.

The family of Mr Crowther from Brackenhayes Close, released a statement on Sunday morning.

It said: “Colin Crowther, a retired planning officer, is survived by his wife, a brother, two children, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and as of December a great nephew.

“Although 69 years old, Colin was a keen walker, climber and cyclist, who could be seen regularly out and about on his new racing bike.

“Colin was a quiet private man, however his kind, thoughtful and considerate presence was welcomed by neighbours, former work colleagues together with his family and friends.

“His sudden absence from the community will be sorely felt, particularly by his two granddaughters who idolised their ‘Grandpop’.”

Suffolk police are carrying out an investigation into the accident and appealing for witnesses to come forward. Call police on 101.
