Ipswich/Halesworth: Alleged pimp and madam in court on prostitution, sex, and money laundering charges

An alleged pimp has appeared in court charged with raping three women, controlling prostitution, and money laundering offences totalling more than £230,000.


Stuart Mansfield, of Nelson Road, appeared before South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court with his co-accused and alleged madam Carla Panton, of Heath Road, Wenhaston, near Halesworth.

Mansfield is facing 13 allegations, while 29-year-old Panton is charged with five alleged offences, which include controlling or inciting prostitution and money laundering a further £22,000.

The allegations against the pair are said to have occurred over a period of five years.

Mansfield is accused of raping a woman in Loddon, Norfolk, between June 1, 2012, and August 30, 2012.

The 36-year-old is also alleged to have raped another woman in Basildon on August 1, 2010.

The third rape charge alleges Mansfield assaulted a woman in Great Yarmouth on January 1, 2011.

In addition he is charged with sexually assaulting a female in Needham Market between June 1, 2011, and June 30, 2011.

Mansfield also faces five money laundering charges which are all said to have taken place between January 1, 2009 and December 10, 2013.

Three involve cash going through different accounts at Barclays Bank in Ipswich. The amounts involved are £140,794, £1,600, and £6,231.

The fourth money laundering allegation involves an account at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Ipswich in which deposits totalling £4,120 were said to be made.

Another charge relates to £81,480 which was allegedly put into an account with the Co-operative Bank in Ipswich.

Mansfield faces two further allegations of paying or promising to pay for sexual services of a prostitute. One of these alleged offences is said to have occurred in Basildon between August 1, 2010 and September 30, 2010, while the other is alleged to have happened in Great Yarmouth between January 1, 2011, and January 31, 2011.

Mansfield and Panton are jointly charged with controlling prostitution for gain in Ipswich between January 1, 2009 and September 19, 2012.

Panton is also facing a second similar charge between the same dates.

The pair are also jointly charged with one count of causing or inciting prostitution for gain. Panton also faces a second similar charge.

She is also accused of laundering £22,591 through a Lloyds Bank account in Ipswich over a four-year period.

No pleas were entered during the first hearing of their cases.

Magistrates committed both defendants to Ipswich Crown Court, where a preliminary hearing will be held on January 28.

Panton was released on unconditional bail, while Mansfield was given conditional bail.
