The police have been called in to investigate a suspicious fire overnight in Ipswich.

Fire crews were called to a house fire in Chaucer Road around 3am.

Two appliances from Princes Street and one from Ipswich East were sent, with firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hosereel and a covering jet to put out the blaze.

The situation was under control by 4.01am with police now investigating the events surrounding it.
