Police have arrested a man in connection with a series of fires

A man is being questioned by police following three deliberate fires in Ipswich.

The first fire involving a wheelie bin, was reported in Hartley Street at 2.10am, to police. Firefighters were called and used a hose reel to get the fire under control by around 2.35am after being called just before 2.20am.The fire caused damage to a window of a nearby home.

At about 3.45am police were alerted to a caravan fire in Halifax Road which damaged a window. Then at 4.30am in Downside Close a black bin next to a block of flats was reported on fire.

A crew from Princes Street attended and extinguished that fire which caused damage to a fence and a property’s vent.

A police spokeswoman said a 29-year-old man from Ipswich had been arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the incidents.
