A 51-year-old man has been charged with the attempted murder of a woman found with a throat wound and injuries to her head in Garrick Way, Ipswich.
Richard Jones, a police spokesman, said “Lianjun Sun, of Cromer Road, Ipswich has been charged with attempted murder and has been remanded in custody.”
The 51-year-old Chinese national is due to appear before South East Suffolk Magistrates Court in Ipswich tomorrow.
The female, who is in her 40s, remains in a critical condition at Ipswich Hospital after being found at a property in Garrick Way, Ipswich.
Police cordoned off an area around the New China takeaway restaurant and a door leading to the flats above following the incident on Friday afternoon.
Sun was detained in Cromer Road on Friday and taken to Martlesham police investigation centre.
Police held him over the weekend and successfully applied to South East Suffolk Magistrates Court for a custody extension to continue questioning him until 4pm today.
A 55-year-old man from Ipswich, who was arrested in Garrick Way on suspicion of attempted murder, shortly after the injured woman was found has been released on police bail until December 3.
Police were alerted after paramedics were called around 3.20pm on Friday to the property at the Burke Road end of Garrick Way. .
Neighbours reported seeing up to nine police cars in the area alongside an ambulance and forensic teams which continued to investigate the scene on Friday night and Saturday.
