A man has been charged following a stabbing in Ipswich in the early hours of Saturday morning which left another man needing emergency surgery.

Abul Hassan Syed, 23, from Lackford Place, Ipswich, has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.

Officers were called just before 1.30am on Saturday by a member of the public saying there had been an altercation in Beatty Road, Ipswich, and a man had been injured.

Police and ambulance were called to the scene and a 21-year-old man was found with a stab wound to his shoulder.

The man was taken to Ipswich Hospital where he underwent surgery for a serious injury where he remains in a stable condition.

A second man at the scene was taken to the hospital with a cut to his hand; he has been treated and discharged from hospital.

Beatty Road was closed to allow a crime scene investigation to take place but a cordon around the scene was taken down at 4.30pm.

The 23-year-old has been remanded in custody at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre and is due to appear before South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court in Ipswich tomorrow.

  • Looking at the name of the accused the location will be easy to fathom as it will be one of the dumping areas of town where no councillors live. And we all know where those ghettos are being spawned.

  • It would be nice for some more detail (such as where Beatty Road etc. is ... i.e. the area name or a map) so people who do not know where it is don't have to bother searching Google or asking someone.
