Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident which happened at around 8pm.

While a member of staff was working at the rear of the shop in Clapgate Lane, a masked man came into the shop and threatened him with a knife.

Two to three further masked men also entered the shop and told a group of customers to stay at the front of the premises. The gang then took alcohol and money from the till before leaving the shop.

All of the men wore dark clothing and balaclavas or masks over their faces.

No one was injured during the robbery.

Police carried out a number of enquiries over the weekend. Officers yesterday spoke to people living nearby and will review CCTV in the area.
